Smoking remains one of the most common harmful habits of mankind. In recent years, the list of nicotine delivery vehicles has changed significantly. And in order to prevent smoking-related diseases, it is necessary to assess the age-related aspects of the prevalence of various types of nicotine addiction. Goal. Compare the prevalence and characteristics of smoking in different age groups. Materials and methods. The material was collected during a survey of students of various universities in the Voronezh region and patients of the polyclinic of the BUZ VO "VGKP No. 7" City polyclinic No. 21. A total of 100 people were interviewed, who were divided into the following groups according to age: 1 group - 18-35 years old - 40 people (23 men and 17 women); 2 group 36-60 years old - 30 people (17 women and 13 men); 3 group - over 60 30 people (19 women and 11 men). Results. According to the survey conducted, it can be stated that people aged 18-60 suffer more from nicotine addiction than representatives of the older age group. It is also worth noting that the prevalence of vapes and electronic tobacco heating systems is most widespread among young people (up to 35 years old), and significantly exceeds the popularity of cigarettes in this age group. Conclusions. This information, coupled with the low interest of young people in quitting nicotine addiction, shows the need for active primary prevention of smoking among young people, with special attention to electronic nicotine delivery devices.</p>
<kwd-group xml:lang="en"><kwd>smoking</kwd><kwd>age characteristics</kwd><kwd>electronic tobacco heating systems</kwd><kwd>youth environment</kwd></kwd-group><kwd-group xml:lang="ru"><kwd>курение</kwd><kwd>возрастные особенности</kwd><kwd>системы электронного нагревания табака</kwd><kwd>молодёжная среда</kwd></kwd-group></article-meta></front>
<p>Introduction. Smoking remains one of the most common harmful habits of mankind. [1] However, the list of smoking remedies has changed significantly in recent years. Vapes and electronic tobacco heating systems have appeared on the retail market, which are actively gaining new adherents, especially young people. [2, 3, 4] Despite the use of evaporative mechanisms and electronic heaters in new devices, they are no less harmful in their effects than cigarettes. In addition to nicotine, they contain propylene glycol, formaldehyde and other harmful chemical compounds. Vapes and electronic tobacco heating systems, like cigarettes, are becoming the strongest factor in the development of chronic diseases of the cardiovascular, respiratory, digestive and endocrine systems. [5] And in order to carry out primary prevention of these diseases, it is necessary to assess the age-related aspects of the prevalence of various types of nicotine addiction. This is what the presented work will be devoted to. <br />The aim of the work is to compare the prevalence and characteristics of smoking in different age groups.<br />Materials and methods of research. The material was collected during a survey of students of various universities in the Voronezh region and patients of the polyclinic of the BUZ VO "VGKP No. 7" City polyclinic No. 21. The survey participants were asked to indicate their gender, age, smoking frequency, type of nicotine device, assess their awareness of the dangers of smoking and express their intention to quit smoking. The sample of respondents was carried out according to a combined (serial and actually random) type.<br />A total of 100 people were interviewed, who were divided into the following groups according to age: 1 group - 18-35 years old - 40 people (23 men and 17 women); 2 group 36-60 years old - 30 people (17 women and 13 men); 3 group - over 60 30 people (19 women and 11 men). Statistical processing of the material was carried out through the StatTech v. 1.2.0 program using the "Fisher exact criterion" at p 0.05 due to small sample volumes.<br />The results of the study. The results are an assessment of the answers to the questionnaire questions and a comparison of these answers in different groups of respondents.<br />When asked about the frequency of smoking in the first group, 11 people (27.5%) noted that they smoke daily, 3 people (7.5%) smoke several times a week, and the rest (26 people 65%) do not suffer from nicotine addiction. In the second age group, it was revealed that 7 people smoke daily (23%) and 1 person smokes several times a week (3%), and 22 respondents do not smoke (73%). In the older age group, 4 people (13%) smoke daily, and 26 people (86%) do not smoke. A comparative analysis revealed statistically significant differences only when comparing groups 1 and 3, indicating that fewer respondents in the older age group suffer from nicotine addiction.<br />Interesting information was obtained when comparing nicotine use devices. In the first group, 10 smokers (71%) use electronic nicotine delivery devices, and 4 smokers (29%) use cigarettes. In the second group, it was revealed that 2 smokers (25%) use electronic devices, and 6 smokers (75%) use cigarettes. In the third group, all 4 smokers use cigarettes. When comparing the group, statistically significant differences were revealed, indicating that vapes and electronic tobacco heating systems are most common among young people, while only cigarettes are popular in the second and third groups. In addition, during the survey, representatives of the second and third age groups often asked the authors what vapes and electronic tobacco heating systems were, and claimed that such devices were not found in their environment.<br />As for the desire to give up nicotine addiction, in the first group only 4 smokers (29%) expressed a desire to quit smoking, in the second group 5 smokers (63%) expressed a desire to quit smoking, and in the third age group 2 people (50%) said about such a desire. When comparing these data, statistically significant differences were observed only between group 1 and 2, which suggests that the desire to quit smoking is higher in the middle age group than in the young, but it is not possible to judge how effective this desire will be.<br />Awareness of the dangers of smoking in almost all groups was at the level of 98% and had no statistically significant differences. As for the sexual characteristics of the spread of smoking, men prevailed among smokers in the older age groups. Thus, in the first group 8 men (57%) and 6 women (43%) smoke, in the second group 6 men (75%) and 2 women (25%) smoke, and in the third age group all smokers were men. <br />Conclusion. Thus, according to the results of the survey, it can be stated that people aged 18-60 suffer more from nicotine addiction than representatives of the older age group. It is also worth noting that the prevalence of vapes and electronic tobacco heating systems is most widespread among young people (up to 35 years old), and significantly exceeds the popularity of cigarettes in this age group. This information, coupled with the low interest of young people in quitting nicotine addiction, shows the need for active primary prevention of smoking among young people, with special attention to electronic nicotine delivery devices.</p>
<back><ref-list><ref id="B1">1.<mixed-citation>Корогодина, Е.
