Group 1 included 9 children with purulent CNS lesions; Group 2 included 86 with serous lesions. All underwent clinical exams, blood biochemistry, and lumbar puncture. Results: Meningococcal infection accounted for 66.7% of purulent cases, predominantly in early childhood. Among specified viral etiologies, enterovirus (27.9%) was most common, followed by cytomegalovirus (4.7%) and HHV6 (1.2%), primarily in schoolchildren (58.3%). Mean pleocytosis in purulent meningitis was 4400.96 780.1 10⁶/L, versus 195.42 32.87 10⁶/L in serous cases. In 20% of viral meningitis, CSF neutrophil percentage reached 98% with normal lactate, whereas lactate was elevated in purulent meningitis. Conclusion: Enterovirus is the leading viral neuroinfection, peaking in schoolchildren during autumn-summer; meningococcus predominates in purulent cases, peaking in young children during winter-autumn. Neutrophilic pleocytosis occurs in 20% of viral meningitis, necessitating CSF lactate measurement for differential diagnosisnormal in viral, elevated in bacterial infections.</p>
