The article presents the results of a study aimed at assessing the level of public awareness of the key manifestations of the terrorist threat and practical skills of acting in such situations.The purpose of the study is to conduct a statistical analysis of the current level of awareness and competences of the population in the manifestations of terrorism of citizens to develop targeted preventive programs.Materials and methods of research: with the help of the author's questionnaire, including the blocks "General Awareness", "Practical Skills", "Communication Readiness", knowledge about the signs of preparation of a terrorist attack, algorithms of behavior in case of explosion threat, hostage-taking and detection of suspicious objects was analyzed. 150 respondents aged 18 to 65 took part.Research results: a significant gap between theoretical awareness of terrorism in general and the lack of specific practical skills was identified. The most problematic areas were hostage-taking actions and a clear knowledge of emergency numbers.Conclusions: the authors conclude that the existing forms of informing the population about the manifestations of terrorism are ineffective enough.
