However, the prescription of COCs may be based on a number of reasons. It is known that one of the most common is polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). Estrogens and their receptors have different cellular and tissue-specific effects, which causes different results of estrogen therapy and side effects on other body systems. Objective. To analyze the frequency of detection of side effects of combined oral contraceptives in the treatment of PCOS. Materials and methods. Search and analysis of literary sources on the Elibrary, PubMed, CyberLeninka, Scopus platforms. Results. We found that when choosing PCOS therapy, along with the restoration of reproductive function, it is necessary to carry out measures aimed at preventing metabolic syndrome and hyperplastic processes in the endometrium. When assessing the safety of using COCs in PCOS, it is necessary to take into account the risks of developing cardiovascular catastrophes. There is no convincing evidence to justify not using COCs in patients with PCOS with metabolic disorders. It is important not only to follow lifestyle modification recommendations for all women with PCOS, but also to perform diagnostic measures before and after prescribing COCs. Conclusion. It is important to note that side effects depend not only on the dose of the drug, but also on hereditary factors and concomitant diseases.
