Many losses were avoided thanks to the efforts of military doctors. 700 thousand Red Army doctors saved more than 70% of the wounded. About a million Wehrmacht doctors saved no more than half of their soldiers. To carry out their activities, doctors were equipped with special gear. Medical bags and knapsacks with dressings, instruments and medicines, flasks with water for the wounded, transport, all this served to save lives. Orderlies were given weapons to protect the wounded and themselves. No less important for the success in saving the wounded was the organization and tactics of the medical service. The Wehrmacht had a more developed infrastructure and a better supply of medicines and equipment, but its medical service did not come close to the successes achieved by the Red Army doctors. The goal is to study the medical and sanitary support in the Workers' and Peasants' Red Army and compare it with the enemy - the Wehrmacht. Materials and methods: analysis of documents, archival materials, and articles on this topic. Results. The study revealed significant differences and similarities in approaches to the organization of medical care. Conclusion. Analysis of the medical and sanitary support of the Red Army and the Wehrmacht shows that both armies sought to use resources as efficiently as possible to save lives. The approach was different, but the doctors of both armies made a significant contribution to reducing losses and maintaining the combat capability of the troops.
