The spread of HIV infection in the Russian Federation remains a serious public health problem. Despite numerous preventive programs, the number of new cases of infection remains high. One of the most effective tools in the fight against the HIV epidemic is antiretroviral therapy (ART). This article is devoted to the analysis of the role of ART as a factor in preventing the spread of HIV in Russia and maintaining reproductive health in the population. The aim of the work is to study data on the spread of the HIV virus in the Russian Federation, to update information on the principles of modern antiretroviral therapy, which can significantly reduce the viral load in infected individuals. Materials and methods: search and analysis of modern medical research and literature, including materials from domestic and foreign sources. Results: The main advantages of modern ART are the ability to interrupt the chain of virus transmission, maintaining the full functioning of patients with HIV immune system. With a properly selected ART regimen, patients remain able-bodied members of society, which has a positive effect on the demographic situation in the country. Conclusion: Availability of quality antiretroviral drugs and adherence to the correct choice of antiretroviral therapy regimen is crucial for the quality of life and health of patients with HIV.
