There is a need to develop medical and social programs of an approach to raising awareness among young people on the prevention of unwanted pregnancies.</p>
</article-meta></front>
<p>Introduction. Data on the decrease in the number of abortions in our country are not always objective due to unaccounted-for abortions in private clinics. [2,3,4] At the same time, risky sexual behavior of young people, their lack of awareness about the consequences of abortion and modern methods of contraception have a negative impact on reproductive potential. Low awareness of the reliability of methods of preventing abortions with hormonal contraceptives indicates poor-quality work of medical workers.<br />The aim of the work was to study the attitude of medical students to modern methods of contraception, as well as their awareness of the prevention and complications of abortion. <br />Materials and methods. The study was conducted on the basis of Synergy University in 2024 by interviewing 219 medical students of 2-3 courses: mainly girls (171;79.2%), boys (48; 20.8%), under the age of 18 (115; 52.5%), 18-20 years old (85; 38.8%), and older 20 years old (19; 8.7%). The questionnaire included 34 open-ended and closed-ended questions, which made it possible to assess not only respondents' awareness of contraception and abortion prevention, but also to identify preferred sources of information. Statistical data processing was performed using the Microsoft Excel 2016 and Statistica 10 application software package.<br />The results of the study. The survey data showed that all medical students know about abortions (100%). At the same time, the overwhelming majority of respondents are against abortion (64.8%), one in five found this issue difficult (20.1%), and 33 students expressed the opinion that this procedure is necessary in some cases (15.1%). Among the reasons justifying abortion, students pointed to a lack of awareness on contraception (47.5%), financial difficulties (45.7%), and unplanned pregnancy under the age of 18 (53.9%). 84.9% of students know about possible complications of abortion, only half of them (58.6%) knew that they could be early and late. The students' high assessment of their awareness of contraception, upon detailed analysis, showed its unreasonableness. Only half of them know about the calendar method and hormonal contraception, and a third about the intrauterine device, and less than 10% of students know about female condoms and surgical sterilization. This is largely due to their choice of sources of information on contraception. Thus, information received during training (25.7%), as well as from medical professionals (12.8%), is not popular for most students. In general, this is determined by the low frequency of visits by students to specialists (67.6%), and for the selection of a method of contraception, students visit specialists only in every fifth case (23.1%). This situation determines the need to improve approaches to raising awareness among young people on contraception and the prevention of unwanted pregnancies.<br />Conclusion. Thus, despite the predominantly negative attitude towards abortion and good awareness of contraception, medical students approach her choice with insufficient responsibility. This is probably due to the wrong choice of sources of information on the prevention of unwanted pregnancy, with low medical activity, which dictates the need to develop a comprehensive medical, psychological and pedagogical approach to raising awareness among young people on these issues.</p>
<back><ref-list><ref id="B1">1.<mixed-citation>1.
