RESULTS Leonid Emilievich Antipko was born on October 8, 1950. His parents were not doctors, but he himself dreamed of becoming a surgeon since school, after one day he accidentally saw an operation on an open heart.[1] His perseverance and purposefulness helped him on the way to achieving his goal. Already at the age of 15, he was able to achieve that he was taken on duty as part of an ambulance brigade, replaced experienced paramedics, quickly learning all the necessary skills. Even before entering the institute, he studied at the department of normal anatomy, and then pharmacology. At the last, together with his mentor Vladimir Anatolyevich Nikolaevsky, he wrote a dissertation, which he later presented himself at a meeting of a scientific student circle. He graduated from school with a medal, having passed the entrance exam in chemistry with excellent marks, and entered the medical university in 1967.[1] Having become a student, Leonid Emilievich from the first year was the most active member of the student scientific circle in surgery, already in the second year of study he was able to independently perform an operation to remove the appendix, and by the end of the university he assisted in complex neurosurgical operations.[2] With such initial data, the path to surgery for the future of the "luminaries" was predetermined. Graduated from the Voronezh State Medical Institute Leonid Emilievich in 1973 with a degree in general medicine. Internship was held in the Kalacheevskaya district hospital. Three years spent in Kalach, and after - in the northern regions, where he served as an army military doctor, were not in vain - there was an accumulation of invaluable experience.[2] It came in handy when Leonid Antipko began working in the Department of Neurosurgery of VOKB No. 1. For 15 years in this hospital, he treated patients, raising to their feet those who, it would seem, could no longer be helped, specializing in diseases of the spine and spinal cord. He was always favored by the leadership, and patients wrote whole legends about him, many of which were pure truth. The fame of the Voronezh doctor spread far beyond the borders of his native city and he was invited to the leading medical centers of Moscow, St. Petersburg, Novosibirsk, as well as abroad: to the Czech Republic and Switzerland.[2] In 1987 he defended his dissertation for the degree of candidate of medical sciences. In 2002 he was awarded the title of Honored Doctor of the Russian Federation. From 2006 to 2021, Leonid Emilievich headed the Department of Neurosurgery at the Road Clinical Hospital.[1] Over the years, thousands of operations on the spine and spinal cord have been performed. Some of them were unique and carried out only once, others were put into practice and are performed by his students to this day. Also, during his work in the department as a head, having accumulated enough experience, knowledge and materials, he wrote two monographs "Spinal Canal Stenosis", "Appointment with Dr. Antipko" and more than 40 publications on topical issues of neurosurgery.[2] Leonid Emilievich died at the age of 73 on March 19, 2023 and was buried at the Forest Cemetery in the city of Voronezh. DISCUSSION The described life path of the outstanding neurosurgeon Leonid Emilievich Antipko demonstrates the inflexibility and resourcefulness of a person following the path to his goal. The results of his work were new methods of surgical interventions on the spinal cord and spine, as well as many printed works on the topic of neurosurgery. Contribution of L.E. Antipko in healthcare was highly appreciated both by patients and his inner circle, as well as by the top leadership of the country, who awarded him the title of "Honored Doctor of the Russian Federation." CONCLUSION "Oh, neurosurgery - what a word! Sometimes it's hard to say, let alone understand. The vocation to be a doctor is nothing more than to treat us, to be able to experience and sympathize!” This small quatrain, written by a grateful patient, characterizes Leonid Emilievich in the best possible way. He was a great neurosurgeon of our time, a person to look up to. I would like the example of this person to inspire many generations of young doctors to strive to achieve their goals no matter what.
