Abstract

Assessment of the impact of nuclear power facilities on environmental conditions and public health remains of high social and scientific importance. The aim of this study was to conduct a comprehensive analysis of environmental and medico-demographic indicators in the observation zone of the Novovoronezh Nuclear Power Plant for the period 2014–2025. The study used data from the automated radiation monitoring system, results of laboratory studies of environmental components, regional statistical data, radiation-hygienic passport information, and medical reporting data. A comparative analysis of Novovoronezh and reference districts of the Voronezh region was performed. The results showed that radiation background levels corresponded to natural regional values and no exceedance of hygienic standards was detected. Hydrochemical indicators remained within established regulatory limits. Higher primary morbidity rates in Novovoronezh were associated with a high level of preventive medical examinations and early disease detection. No statistically significant relationship between the operation of the nuclear power plant and deterioration of public health was identified.

Relevance. The development of nuclear energy in the context of reducing carbon emissions requires an objective assessment of its impact on the environment and public health [1, 2]. Despite the existence of a state control system, concerns related to radiation exposure persist in public discourse [3].
The Novovoronezh Nuclear Power Plant is one of the longest-operating facilities in the industry, allowing for the analysis of long-term environmental and demographic trends [4].
Purpose of the work. A comprehensive assessment of environmental and medical-demographic indicators in the observation zone of the Novovoronezh Nuclear Power Plant for the period 2014-2025.
Materials and methods of research. The object of research is the 30-kilometer observation zone. The observation group is Novovoronezh. The control territories are the Liskinsky and Olkhovatsky districts of the Voronezh Region. The data of the automated system for monitoring the radiation situation (ASKRO) and the results of the annual monitoring are used.
