There are three hypotheses of the origin of syphilis. The spread of syphilis in Russia belong to the late XV and early XVI century, helped by the revival of trade relations of Russia with the cities of Western Europe. Today we know that the spread of syphilis in Russia has a wavelike nature: periods of growth are replaced by their lower and coincide with the social upheavals in society.
