However, due to their anatomical features, atraumatic extraction may require specialized instruments. Separation of the circular periodontal ligament is one of the most critical steps in performing a tooth extraction. Existing dental instruments used for periodontal ligament separation share a common drawback, which is the thickness of their working part (0.3 mm or more). This study investigated the use of a specially designed periodontal blade for the atraumatic extraction of upper incisors in laboratory rats.
