The advantages and the disadvantages of screening programs are discussed. Examples of screening programs’ realization in foreign countries are given and the comparison of those to the prophylactic medical examination of detached group of citizens in Russia was provided. There are special governmental organizations which develop the national recommendations on the screening policy in the country. Different approaches for the choice of diseases to be included in the screening list and different methods of screening’s reasonability evaluation are used.
